Are You Ready Kids? The Collab That Nobody Needed

Apart from my biased opinion that basketball shoes should remain on the court, at first sight, the Kyrie 5 “SpongeBob” looks like it should only come in children’s sizes – but no, the collab is marketed towards adults.

When SpongeBob comes to mind (which is rarely), it isn’t about the shows aesthetic appeal (as it doesn’t exist) but SpongeBob’s horrific laugh, the uncomfortable live-action sequences, and that annoying song about friendship. I can hear his laugh while staring at that wiggly Nike swoosh.

SpongeBob is a show to watch when there is nothing good on Disney Channel and is about as far as you can get from aesthetically pleasing. The colors are overwhelmingly vivid, as seen on these shoes, to a point that they will hurt your eyes if you stare for too long. If you are going to make yellow sneakers, at least make them a nice mustard-y color!

Plus, I can’t imagine anything scarier than taking off your shoes to see SpongeBob’s face staring back at you from where your feet should be. These are the shoes that nightmares are made of.

I really appreciate the effort put into designing these shoes, but I think that they missed the mark. If you’re looking for a good childhood throwback sneaker collaboration, the Diadora x Peanuts high-tops are adorable and not for basketball.

With Rodarte x Universal Standard's Collab, Couture Becomes Size-Inclusive

Rejoice, fashion lovers. Rodarte and Universal Standard have just come out with a collaboration with designs ranging from 00-40, making high fashion that much more inclusive to all shapes and sizes.

The Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte rose to fame after designing the costumes for the movie “Black Swan” and have since delivered us magical collections filled with tulle and ruffles and glitter; always with an avant-garde edge. As a couture brand, however, they do not offer sizes past an 8. Also, couture is hella expensive.

Rodarte’s upcoming collab with Universal Standard seeks to make their brand of femininity more accessible both pricing and sizing wise. The four pieces in the collection range from $150-240 and substitute Universal Standard’s typical bread and butter basics for plenty of rose pink and ruffles.

67% of women wear a size 14 or above, so why are there so few options for them? Our society is failing to recognize a huge market, causing frustration and insecurity for so many women. Universal Standard was created to provide stylish, high quality clothing for every size. They aren’t a “plus size” company, they’re a company that caters to all of us.

Yes, Post Malone Designed a Crocs Collection

This just in, Crocs newest collaboration with Post Malone has sold out. Am I confused? Yes. Will I be buying them? Short answer: no. I have yet to be sold on the Crocs situation, the idea of wearing a literal meme isn’t really my vibe. So even though Vogue may claim this to be the unexpected “hottest shoe of the season,” I reject that sentiment and honestly, I reject Crocs.

Recently there has been a wave of ‘ugly but fashion’ and I’ve been kind of on board. I live for the dad vibe but make it fashion (a #cooldad), and it really has brought back some fun trends. But, Crocs really need to stay in their lane. I get it, they were cool back in like 2006 when all the hip ten year olds were stunting with their foam footwear, but that’s in the past. We’ve grown, we’ve matured, and we’ve realized they are just ugly.

That being said, props to Crocs for landing this collab. Post Malone has exploded recently due to his music, but also for his really out there sense of style. For him, the Crocs look works. But for the everyday gal just trying to make it through the day, slapping on a pair of Crocs is not at all practical. They seem to have the strange ability to clash with everything, and are full of holes offering no protection from any kind of weather. So while Post Malone may be able to rock these, I certainly can't.

But if you were planning on snagging some of the rapper’s new footwear, here are some more details as you wait for them to be restocked:

  • They are pretty affordable, retailing at $59.99 on the Crocs website

  • They come in 3 colors: white, yellow, and black

  • The printed pattern is a cartoon with devil horns and you can buy custom jibbetz (don’t act like you don’t know what those are)

So while Madonna and other celebrities have expressed interest in the newest addition to the Crocs family, I certainly will be staying away. But if anyone out there wants to prove me wrong and teach me how to style Crocs, I’m more than willing to learn something from new from the Crocs community.

Watch Out, A Wave of New Uniqlo Collabs Is Coming

I have always adored Uniqlo U. After two seasons of Uniqlo x Lemaire and four seasons of Uniqlo U, the brand has taken over my closet inch by inch. It has also become an industry leader with regards to collaborations. Uniqlo x ? used to be a major event just for fashion lovers; now the collaboration series has become a strong component of Uniqlo's brand identity.

Uniqlo has worked with MoMA, Niko Luoma, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Disney, Marvel, Nintendo, style icons such as Ines de la Fressange and Carine Roitfeld, brands like Marimekko and Theory, and of course designers such as Hana Tajima and Jil Sander… The list goes on and on. For Uniqlo and its collaborators, every piece of clothing is an opportunity for fashion to intersect with affordability, versatility and mass appeal.

There are a couple of Uniqlo x ? to watch out for in the coming months. What’s better than beating the lingering winter and welcoming the impending summer with some shopping for warmer months?

Erdem X H&M Preview

H&M has been elevating what fast fashion can be through their collaborations with fashion designers around the world. They first started in 2004 with Karl Lagerfeld and have continued to feature 15 other designers since like Kenzo and Versace, making higher end brands both more accessible and wearable.

The latest fashion house to collaborate with H&M is none other than Erdem. For those of you who don't know who Erdem is, MODA has got you covered. A London-based label, Erdem is headed by designer Erdem Moralioglu. Erdem studied fashion at the Royal College of Art in London and soon to become one of the fashion world's hottest designers. His pieces, exquisitely crafted and fraught with detail, are loved by stars like Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman and even royalty like Kate Middleton.

The teaser for the collaboration was shot by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann known for his highly colorful and spirited films like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! His role in the project highlights the Swedish's brand to explore fashion's intersectionality with other art mediums like film, proving to become a more dynamic and multi-faceted brand.

For me fashion is always about more than just clothing, it is a form of expression – a stand alone art form. I am excited to be collaborating with ERDEM and H&M to reveal the story of this unique collection. -Baz Luhrmann

The full collection hasn't been released yet but what can fans expect? Erdem suggests watching the video by Bruce Weber for the Pet Shop Boys song Being Boring. "It’s about a group of young people at a country house mansion. It’s that idea of a country getaway with boys and girls dressing up and playing with their look, with girls in ball gowns and sneakers, and also sharing a wardrobe with guys.” Through this collection, Erdem creates looks that are "between something decidedly dressed-up and equally effortless.”

H&M's next exclusive designer collaboration will be with ERDEM, the London based must-have designer loved by celebrities and fashion insiders alike. H&M is also pleased to reveal that the visionary film maker Baz Luhrmann will bring the collection to life through his unique storytelling.
