When reading poetry, it is sometimes so hard to understand exactly what the author is saying because in just a few phrases, an incredible wealth of meaning can be applied to each individual word. Although some of Nayyirah Waheed's poetry can be very dense, as seen in her book, salt., her Instagram feed hosts many of her lighter posts that illustrate a type of poetry that is so unique in its simplicity yet still maintains a raw, empowering emotion that allows for immediate self-reflection.
