Christian Louboutin's Eyeliner: My Biggest Mistake Thus Far

Christian Louboutin's Eyeliner: My Biggest Mistake Thus Far

I like to consider the two weeks before and two weeks after my actual birthday a grace period where I strongly adhere to the philosophy "treat yo self".

So naturally, I finally justified my desire to buy Christian Louboutin's Oeil Vinyle Luminous Ink Liner. For the high cost of $75 for a spindly tube (you can find here), this liner was intended to have the luxurious leather finish of this house's patent leather. The packaging was stunning, with the classic logo and a sharp dagger-like tube. Sadly, this is where my praise for this product ends.

My first impression upon using it was that the applicator was much thicker and duller than I expected. Seriously, the packaging was sharper and would give a more precise application than the actual liner itself. The product comes in three colors: Lady Twist (a tealish blue), Khol (black), and a Rouge Louboutin (special edition red). I decided on the shade Khol, which is described as the "blackest black".

Here are my two biggest reasons I completely regret getting this: the inconsistency and visual patchiness.

The application of the product itself is very uneven. Some parts dry quickly while others stay on a bit thicker, which creates the problem of transfer and smudging. It takes longer than usual liquid liners to dry, but once it dried, I didn't have a problem with any smearing. Besides that, the pigmentation is very strong so it makes for a statement eyeliner.

Also, the product name makes it sound like there would be a shiny, vinyl finish, but it's actually a lot more matte than expected. That's fine because I prefer matte finishes on eyeliner. However, the inconsistency in the texture of the product leaves some parts of the application looking leathery and uneven. Hence leading to the biggest issue with the product- its visual patchiness. Considering the other eyeliners I've used with a much lower price tag, the color was too chunky. Some parts of the liner look darker than others, which created a messy look that I didn't want.

For people who want a high-performing, effective eyeliner, this product is definitely not it. This product is definitely not worth the high price, and is just about as disappointing as Louboutin's lip products. Louboutin- definitely stick to your shoes and bags.
