Designer Music: A Playlist For Your Runway
What separates fashion shows from traditional marketing are that they do not simply focus on the product. As shows should, they present a cohesive experience, complete with the ambiance, models, presentation, and of course, runway music. Fashion and the rest of the arts often walk the same path - from Schiaparelli collaborating with Dali for the lobster dress to rappers endorsing designers in their lyrics. Saturated by cultural icons of all kinds, the fashion show is society's epicenter of artistic convergence. Concurrently, the apparel designers put out today reflects the aesthetic zeitgeist also inherent in music. Notice how many designers have forgone classical music for techno, house, and even hip hop in their production, and this picture of Anna Wintour with Drake:
So naturally I wonder what kind of music taste contemporary designers cultivated through working with musicians, and what kind of music they would produce if given the option.
