MODA Blog's Holy Grail Products: Danna

Every product junkie knows that the ultimate reason behind racking up drawers and drawers of new lipsticks, concealers, powders, etc., is to find a holy grail. Holy grail products are those magical items that are just right–right texture, right color, right finish, right lasting power–and that's what makes them so difficult to find. In honor of that search, MODA Blog has decided to share some of our holy grail products in a new series. Every week, a different blogger will discuss their three all-time favorite beauty products, which can include anything from makeup to skincare to hair care. We'll get a peak into the beauty lives of our MODA bloggers and hopefully, discover some new holy grail products of our own.

This week, I'm sharing my three favorite beauty products, which include a liquid liner, a foundation, and a fragrance!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper

I've been wearing eyeliner almost every day for about six years now, and the product that made me switch over from gel to liquid was this eyeliner. I've dabbled in other liquid liners since then–Stila's Stay All Day, Eyeko's Eye Do, L'Oréal's Lineur Intense–but the only one I've ever repurchased is the Kat Von D liner. The reasons that I currently have three of these in my makeup bag are pretty straightforward.

The brush tip is perfect for the kind of subtle wing that I like to wear everyday. I have hooded eyelids, so it can be difficult to find a brush that is sturdy enough to navigate around the roots of my eyelashes but also thin enough to create a really sharp flick. This liner hits that perfect sweet spot, and it has made daily application a breeze.

This is one of the darkest blacks I've ever used for eyeliner. Liquid liner can often creep toward grey, but the Kat Von D liner is a true black. I've never had to worry about the color not turning out exactly how I want it!

Finally, the staying power of this liner is incredible. I have very oily eyelids, so I can't wear anything without eye primer. That's still true for this product. The days that I've tried going sans Urban Decay Primer Potion, the liner has started to dissolve after about six hours. When I apply primer before, this lasts through anything. I've literally walked through the rain, worked out and then showered, accidentally rubbed my eye, and this liner still looks the same as it did when I applied it!

Make Up For For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation

Almost every girl with combination or oily skin has at some point tried or thought of trying this foundation. I'm certainly no exception, and I use this foundation almost every day.

I currently own this in no. 20 Ivory and no. 35 Vanilla, which I like to mix to find the perfect shade. On a day to day basis, I like to mix this with a BB cream to make the finish a little less intense, but for special occasions, this foundation really holds up on its own. Because I have combination skin, I only use this in my T-Zone area to even out the redness, and I find that it looks great both in person and in pictures.

This foundation can be a bit drying, which is why I mix it with BB for daily wear, but the super-matte finish works really well for nights out. Within an hour of wearing the foundation, it reaches that perfect glowing but not shiny level that's so difficult to reach for those of us with oily skin.

I've been using this for the last two years, and it's the only fragrance that I've ever repurchased. I'm the kind of person who will wear one scent pretty consistently for a while and then get over it, but this perfume has changed me. It's sweet and citrusy upon application, but dries down to a really beautiful, complex scent that has a touch bitterness.

This is one of those products that just makes me incredibly happy when I put it on. It's the kind of product that can make me change my mindset in the morning if I wake up feeling slow and sluggish. For me, it's become something that I always want to have in my collection because using it gives me that sense of comfort and familiarity. It's a true holy grail!
