Musings on Men's Jewellery

Musings on Men's Jewellery

I have a confession to make.

Two years ago, I thought jewellery was just for girls.

I had accepted what Western society teaches young males; rings, bracelet, earrings–they are not open to you.

But, one day, scrolling online I came across Le Gramme. Their minimalistic cuffs intrigued me. They were beautiful, delicate, and yet masculine enough that I felt comfortable to test the water. So, for my 18th birthday, I asked for one from my parents. Almost two years on, I wear it day-in-day-out.

The floodgates had opened. Next, I bought a Pearls Before Swine necklace. Then, Pearls Before Swine rings to match. And, most recently, a Beaded Lily ear cuff from Etsy.

My first piece of jewellery - a Le Gramme cuff - paired with Pearls Before Swine rings.

What I’d struck upon was a love for jewellery. I adore the timelessness of it all. I wear my pieces constantly. I wear them to parties, I wear them to bed, and I wear them in the bath. They’re like that favorite tee you never want to take off, only you can actually keep them on without fear of (well justified) judgement. They have, quite literally, become a part of who I am.

But, of course, I couldn’t stop just there. In for a penny, in for a pound. So, I started to keep track of brands that were producing striking, elegant pieces. I have a relatively firm grasp of which clothing companies I like and why. The exciting thing about delving into jewellery was that I got to start all over again.

Picture above are some of my favorite brands. You’ve got: Loren Stewart, Title of Work, Justine Clenquet (who says men can’t wear women’s jewellery!?), Sidney Garber, Le Gramme and All Blues. Each company has their own story, and that really shows in their work. Their pieces are individual, subtle, and deeply beautiful. If you’re looking to tiptoe, or trample, into the world of men’s jewellery, this is where you should start.
