Universal Standard Offers Styles for Women of All Sizes

Universal Standard Offers Styles for Women of All Sizes

Fashion is an outward manifestation of artistic freedom. Yet that freedom isn’t easily accessible for women who are beyond the store-size “average.” Women sizes 14+, who make up about 67% of the U.S. population, are often shut out of the fashion community. But the tide is turning on inclusivity in fashion. Ranging from sizes 00-40, Universal Standard is a brand looking to overthrow the status quo of size limitations.

“We wanted a size 26 to shop in the same way as a size 6 – using style as her only filter, and we wanted to be the ones to make that happen.” - Universal Standard

Their site displays an array of comfy and chic minimalist wardrobe staples that every woman should be afforded, no matter her size.

Universal Standard is firmly established as a fabulous haven for plus sized women, but no one should feel turned away from the brand. The founders, Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman, launched the ‘Fit Liberty’ collection in recognition of the reality of size fluctuation: any pieces bought from the line that no longer fits can be exchanged for the clothes in your new size, free of charge.

From their partnership with J.Crew this summer to a feature in Vogue and the opening of their first brick-and-mortar location in New York last week, Universal Standard is blazing a path towards body acceptance and size normalization, and doing it in phenomenal style.
