Fashion Confessions: Shopping in the Kids' Section

Fashion Confessions: Shopping in the Kids' Section

Just having passed my 20th birthday in December, I felt a little strange delving into the children's section at Zara. Although strange and probably frowned upon somewhere, I am so pleased with the items I found for dangerously and incredibly cheap.

After successfully perusing the typical Women's sale section in attempts to exhaust gift card funds while still being painfully frugal, slightly tipsy me decided to take a peak at the clothes intended for small children aged 4 to 14. While I almost always regret my alcohol-induced clothing purchases, I am pleasantly surprised as this order finally arrived on my doorstep. I am by no means a tiny-sized person and normally wear a medium, and these child's clothes fit me perfectly (Pro-Tip: the size ages 11-12 and 13-14 generally fit like an adult's small or medium).

Without further ado, continue reading to hopefully be convinced of the gems you can find if you broaden your shopping standards.

Girl's Top with Neck Frill

This shirt is cute and comfy. Even better, it was $5.99. I am eager to tuck it into high-waisted skirts or shorts and tights (read: my daily uniform).

Girl's Funnel Collar Sweatshirt

This over-sized, super soft sweatshirt is actually quite baggy on me, despite the fact I got it in the young girls section for less than six bucks. It'll be the perfect pairing for comfier days with some fitted shorts and tights (again, it is my daily uniform).

Boy's Basic Polo Shirt

Surprise: I've also ventured into the young boy's section! This shirt I bought mainly because it looked comfortable and was on sale for $3.99, so I figured it'd be a low risk if it didn't end up working out. I'm currently lounging in it as I write this - it fits perfectly and adds a boyish prep-school vibe to my tweed pants.

Boy's Turtleneck Top

Last but not least, we have this basic white turtleneck top. I have been coveting the look of a bright white or cream turtleneck layered under dresses and jackets and for under four dollars this couldn't be beat.

After this mini try-on party, complete with PhotoBooth screenshot selfies, I completely encourage anyone to venture into sections for those younger. This experience has shown me the beauty in what I think is one of my favorite things about fashion - the ability to explore and experiment with different styles and sizes and truly express anything your little heart desires. Don't let any labels, clothes old or new, gendering, or anything else get in your way and shop on, my pals!
