Where & Wear: Oiistar

Where & Wear: Oiistar

Ramen is the staple of a college student's diet. However, instead of cooking instant ramen, take advantage of the ramen offerings out in the city! Out of all the ramen places I've explored in Chicago, my favorite (hand's down), would have to be Oiistar.

Located in Wicker Park, Oiistar boasts an impressive menu for a pretty intimate setting. Its dim lighting and modern interior is mellow and exudes that hip Wicker Park vibe. But fair warning: Oiistar does not take reservations so be prepare to wait in a long line if you go during dinner time.

I love Oiistar because each component of the ramen is perfectly executed. My personal favorite ramen on the menu is the Oiimen. The broth, cooked for over eigtheen hours before being served, is super rich and creamy, satisfying your "hangriness" with one warm sip. The ramen noodles are house-made, and once you take a bite, you can definitely taste the difference from the ones you buy in styrofoam cups. The pork belly melts in your mouth, and the egg is perfectly boiled leaving the yolk just runny enough. Some other options I recommend of their menu are the Spicy Veggimen and Musclemen.

However, you can't just leave Oiistar having just tried the ramen! To complement the meal, I recommend trying the buns (pork belly especially) and the fried garlic chicken as appetizers to share. If you're thinking about drinks, Oiistar has house cocktails such as Oiistar Sangria

To fit Oiistar's modern and casual environment, I suggest wearing something that's both edgy and comfortable. Since you might have to wait a while to get seated, a pair of comfortable sneakers would be the way to go.
