Nov 23 Layering Up For Fall

I have a love-hate relationship with fall. It's finally cool enough to start breaking out my sweaters and coats, but it's also a sure sign that winter is well on its way. The key to surviving fall, and doing so fashionably, lies in the art of layering. It's an easy and fun way to switch up your outfits, while staying comfortable, whether you're out in the wind, or taking a quick power nap in Harper.

1. Base layer

Your base layer's probably going to be a t-shirt or a henley, so make sure it's a comfy one. American Apparel tees are decently comfortable, but I much prefer Canvas tees - they're some of the softest I've ever had the pleasure of wearing.

2. Hoodie/Sweatshirt

A hoodie or sweatshirt is key to the layering process. Not only are they comfy, but they can be stylish as well. After all, that UChicago hoodie's probably looking a little worse for wear and it's not particularly sartorial, to say the least. This french terry hoodie from MeUndies, on the other hand, is a fashionable blend of style and comfort. French terry is a fabric (mostly cotton) that's been warp knitted, so it feels amazingly soft. The crossover collar sets the hoodie apart from your standard pullover, giving it an almost ninja-esque vibe.

3. Leather Jacket

A black leather jacket is a staple in any guy's closet. It's reminiscent of Grease, and all the badassery that comes with it. Not only is it a sleek piece for a fit, but most leather jackets are also functional, with multiple inner pockets for convenient storage. Basically, they're the perfect combination of form and function.

Layering is a great way to play around with different color palettes, textures, and levels. The different lengths of the jacket, hoodie, and longline tee create a unique silhouette, giving this monochrome fit a distinctive twist.
