Quad Style: Lorenzo Bartolini

Quad Style: Lorenzo Bartolini

Hi, I’m Lorenzo! I’m an Economics and Philosophy double major, though in another life where I knew how to draw, I’d study architecture. I founded the UChicago meme page, but at this point my function there is mostly titular. Otherwise, I fill my time by writing poetry and quoting The Office.

What are you wearing (for this shoot)?

Outfit 1: Here I’ve popped on a pair of Cole Haan tennis sneakers, Club Monaco trousers, topped off with a Helmut Lang hoodie.

Outfit 2: I’m wearing John Varvatos suede boots, a pair of Joe’s jeans, a Uniqlo Kaws X Peanuts tee shawled by a Sandro cardigan.

How would you describe your personal style?

The word that comes to mind is metropolitan. My life has shuttled between New York, Boston, and Chicago, so I like to wear things that can survive dirty commutes while also being appropriate for a downtown dinner. Those wildly specific restrictions aside, my philosophy is that good quality, interesting pieces (within the same stylistic range) will go well together irrespective of combination, so I’ll usually just variegate through my small wardrobe without much extra thought. I also really like sweaters.

Where do you find style inspiration?

100% sourced from Bloomingdale’s catalogs. Really, that’s it. My mom is a stylish lady, and when I’m in Boston for break and she’s at work, I kill time by browsing through the looks in those catalogs. I mean, what else is there to do in Boston? It’s also how I learn about brands and what their individual aesthetics seek to evoke, and, in shopping I try to resolve those aesthetics against my own sensibilities.

Where do you like to shop?

I have a lot of trouble finding clothes that fit well so I tend to hang on to those pieces that do. To that end, when I shop I don’t seek out specific stores, but rather list out items that I need to replace and try to find the best fitting/looking/feeling piece in that category. SoHo crawls are really the way to do it, because you’ll come across equally trendy big brand stores and boutique ateliers; plus, shopping really pairs well with brunch.

Do you have any fashion regrets?

The mushroom haircut I rocked between 6th and 9th grade is a definite low point...really everything in those years is cringey to think back upon. Silly Bandz died out in the ‘08 recession, so that’s something to be thankful for; I’ve since upgraded to proper bracelets, but overall I would say that we are what we wear and shouldn’t regret our fashion insofar as we don’t regret ourselves.
