What the FRAKTA?

What the FRAKTA?

The last few weeks in the fashion world have seen the spotlight focused on a brand you'd hardly expect - IKEA. In case you've been living under a rock, or more realistically, been dealing with endless waves of midterms, this entire situation started when Balenciaga released a luxury blue tote bag that bears an uncanny resemblance to IKEA's iconic tote bag, the FRAKTA. The only difference is, while you can pick up a FRAKTA for just under a dollar ($0.99, specifically), Balenciaga's offering will run you a cool $2,145. Not to be outdone, IKEA quickly clapped back with this delightfully tongue-in-cheek ad.

We shouldn't be too surprised about Balenciaga taking inspiration from IKEA, though. After all, Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga's creative director, is also the lead designer of Vetements. However, what I found more interesting was the wave of IKEA-inspired garments and accessories spurred by the initial event. Sure, some of them are just conceptual ideas brought to life by Photoshop, but that doesn't make them any less interesting. Check out some of our favorites below!
