Where & Wear: Ramen Takeya

If you've ever been to Wasabi in Logan Square, you'll know that their ramen quality is top-notch. That's why you'll also know that Ramen Takeya is equally as delicious, as it is owned by the same couple. This restaurant specializes in chicken paitan ramen and is also BYOB! It's the perfect place to get together with friends.

For appetizers, I definitely recommend the crispy takoyaki, or lightly fried octopus balls drizzled with a sweet soy sauce. Now, the star of the show is the chicken paitan ramen which offers a lighter broth than your regular Tonkatsu. I would opt for the spicy chicken paitan ramen for that extra kick, but I also love their Tokyo classic shoyu ramen, where the broth is made from both chicken and pork bones. There are also delicious rice bowls if you're not feeling like eating noodles, either topped with tuna or uni.

Unfortunately, they do not take reservations, but the wait isn't too bad. Ramen Takeya is a very casual place, so definitely wear something comfortable! Throw on a low and lightweight turtleneck, like this one from Aritzia, and a roomy pair of pants. If you're not one for turtlenecks, a cute V-neck will also do, like this one from Kit & Ace.
