Nov 7 Making History: Cubs Win First World Series in Over a Decade!

It's the tenth inning, rain pouring down from above causing a delay, and an entire city - an entire world - on the edge of their seats. It's silent for a moment. Then applause. They did it! They won!

What am I referring to you may ask? Well if you have been living under a rock, the Chicago Cubs just won the World Series against the Cleveland Indians last night - the first victory since 1908! With an 8-7 win, this was a very memorable game, with the Indians racking in three runs in the eighth inning, but the Cubs gained two runs in the tenth inning on a double from the Series's MVP Ben Zobrist and a single by Miguel Montero. At the bottom of the inning, Davis hit a single to put the Indians to a run behind. Relieve Mike Montgomery, however, replaced Carl Edwards and got Michael Martinez to hit a slow roller into the infield. Third baseman Kris Bryant threw it across to first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who caught it and led to a standing ovation from the stadium and fans all over.

This victory is historic for the city and avid Cubs fan internationally. With a drought of 112 years finally over, fans everywhere can put to bed all the jokes made about the team and superstitious rumors that surfaced. One famous example is the Curse of the Billy Goat, a curse placed on the Cubs in 1945 by Billy Goat Taven owner William Sianis. Due to the odor of his pet goat Murphy, Sianis was asked to leave the Cub's home ballpark Wrigley Field during game 4 of the 1945 World Series. Sianis then declared "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more" and they lost the 1945 World Series to the Detroit Tigers and did not win another World Series until this year.

Fans were ecstatic with the win. Thousands of people were seen standing outside of Wrigley Field, watching and waiting in anticipation. Once the win occurred, there were cheers and celebratory hugs shared all around, and a uniformed solidarity of glee that brought the city together. Even at University of Chicago, there were viewing parties campus wide, as I myself watching in International House with a party of at least one hundred people cheering for the Cubs' win. If you would like to be a part of the celebration, tomorrow (November 4) there will be a victory parade from Wrigley Field and ending in Grant Park, with a stretch of it traveling down Lake Shore Drive! With Back to the Future II even predicting the Cubs would win the World Series in 2015 (a very eerie and almost completely accurate prediction), we here in Chicago couldn't be more thrilled. CONGRATULATIONS CUBS!
